  • Windows on ARMBusinesses have been shy about making the switch to Windows 8.1, and that goes double for bringing the less capable Windows 8.1 RT into the mix. Even so, Microsoft isn't shy about reaching out to businesses and their IT departments to let them know why Windows RT 8.1 and the Surface 2 combine to make the perfect office companion, and the company has posted a blog outlining the reasons why it feels that businesses should be excited about it.

  • Windows on ARMMicrosoft is desperate to gain footing lost to Apple and Android in the tablet market. And so it should be, too. The tablet market is projected to grow as quickly over the next five years as the smartphone market grew from 2007 to 2013. The company’s latest salvo into the battle is the Surface 2 – part tablet, part (with the optional keyboard) laptop. So how does it fare? Read on to find out.

  • Windows on ARMMicrosoft announced today that a long-expected new Surface model, the Surface 2 (AT&T 4G LTE), will be available for purchase starting to tomorrow. This LTE-equipped version of the Windows RT 8.1-powered Surface 2 device commands a $130 premium over a similarly equipped Surface 2, and will retail for $679. Whether this new model is worth such a heady sum is of course up to the buyer.

  • Windows on ARMAs a Surface 2 owner, I have come to grips with the fact that Windows RT, the operating system on my tablet, is a bastardized version of "real Windows". However, I love the OS, as it works great and is very secure. On the RT variant, the user cannot install classic Windows programs. While many see this as a negative, I see it as a positive -- classic Windows viruses and malware cannot be installed either.

  • Windows on ARMIf you are looking for a real bargain these days and you’re planning to purchase a Microsoft Surface tablet, you’re in luck. Windows Phone Central has come across a pretty special offer available on eBay that sells the original Surface RT tablet with 32 GB of storage space for only $179 (€130).

  • Windows on ARMIf you’re planning to purchase a Microsoft Surface RT tablet, this could be the right time to do it, as the company has just released a new discount for this particular version of the device.

  • Windows on ARMMicrosoft Surface 2 review, specs: The Windows RT 8.1-powered tablet from the Redmond tech giant has some impressive specs and though one tech review site didn’t give it a high nod, both the 32GB entry-level variant and 64GB version of the device is out of stock as of press time.

  • Windows on ARMMicrosoft is actually a fantastic business -- even in a down PC market, the rest of the company's businesses (roughly 75% of revenue) continue to see rather robust growth. Indeed, over the last 12 months, Microsoft posted net income just north of $22 billion ($2.68 per share multiplied by the share count of 8.35 billion). While Microsoft taken as a whole is a superb business, its strategy with Surface/Windows RT simply makes no sense.

  • Windows on ARMAfter pitting its Surface 2 against Apple's iPad Air (unsurprisingly, the former wins that round), Microsoft is now going after Samsung's Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 in a new Surface RT ad that focuses on the connectivity options offered by the two devices.

  • Windows on ARMThe second generation Surface is a well-built, highly functional machine but it has yet to catch-on in the market to the same degree of the iPad. For Microsoft, the Surface is a must-win device as the company shifts from a software focused company, to a device and services model where the Surface plays a key part.

  • Windows on ARMI’ve now spent a month with the Microsoft Surface 2 and I consider it time well spent. The Surface 2 is by no means a perfect machine and I would still label it a work in progress. I stand by my initial thinking that the Surface 2 is a very good next step for Microsoft and a very good improvement over the disastrous first version in almost every respect.

  • Windows on ARMThe first generation of Microsoft’s homegrown Surface RT tablet delivered mixed results. The hardware was solid and well built, but the OS and software ecosystem left a little something to be desired. Many thought pricing was a bit on the high side as well. Finally, competition at the time was also quite fierce, to say the least and still is, of course.

  • Windows on ARMYes, you've read that correctly. Microsoft's Surface RT tablet will be available at US retailer Best Buy under the magical $200 mark. The $199.99 price tag will be attached next to the Windows RT slate between November 28 and November 30, just in time for Black Friday.

  • Windows on ARMI admit it. I was one of those crazies who stood in line to buy a first-generation Surface RT in the first hour it was available. And I did so without having had a chance to test drive a device for more than a few minutes beforehand.

  • Windows on ARMOver the past week, I’ve had the fortune to play with both Microsoft’s Surface 2 and the Asus T100 Transformer Book. These are very similar devices — convertible laptops with detachable keyboards — except for one big and fundamentally life-altering difference: Where the Surface 2 is powered by Nvidia’s ARM-based Tegra 4 SoC, the Transformer Book has Intel’s x86 Bay Trail under the hood.

  • Windows on ARMWith Surface 2, everything has changed: This device offers significantly better performance and better battery life in a package that is better looking, thinner and lighter than that of its predecessor. But questions about the Windows RT platform remain. Is Surface 2 good enough to jumpstart Microsoft's Windows devices vision?

  • Windows on ARMIf you bought an original Surface tablet when it was first released in October 2012, you might have noticed that it did not have an Ethernet port. The tablet also didn't support any USB-based Ethernet adapters. There have been rumors that Microsoft was working on adding Ethernet drivers to Windows RT for the 8.1 release, but Microsoft never officially commented on those plans.

  • Windows on ARMNokia's new Windows RT tablet turns the Finnish handset maker into Microsoft's rival, but at least one Nokia partner says there's really no competition.

  • Windows on ARMA number of people who own the original Surface RT tablet (now known just as Surface) have not had a lot of luck when it comes to updating the tablet to Windows RT 8.1. Microsoft pulled that update from the Windows Store a couple of days after it was released because it was bricking some Surface RT devices. Microsoft put the update back in the store earlier this week.
